If you don't know where Gołdap is, take a map of Poland and find the horizontal line in the north that marks the Polish-Russian border. Along this line you will also see a dot marking the town of Gołdap, whose greatest attractions are the nearby Romincka Forest and its status as a spa town. The town is presented by an audio guide that will delight above all lovers of history and of the European Union. We encounter Gołdap's history right at the start of the walk, near the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church (co-cathedral of the Diocese of Ełk), raised from the rubble after World War II. From the church, the audio guide route leads past the monuments to Immanuel Kant and… an elk, across the Market Square to the final stop, located at another temple of history – the Museum of the Gołdap Land. The audio guide tells fascinating stories about Prussian barracks full of Bosniaks and about German Olympians who trained in Gołdap before the war. It will also warm the hearts of Euro-enthusiasts by describing Gołdap's Education and Sports Centre, built with EU funding.
