For centuries the Cistercian abbey in Rudy was one of the most important centres of religious life for the people of Silesia. In the 19th and 20th centuries it fell into decline, but today it is regaining its former importance. Audio guides have been prepared with adults and children in mind, as well as blind visitors, allowing an in-depth exploration of this extraordinary place. The abbey in Rudy was founded in the 13th century. From then on, it influenced not only the religious but also the economic development of the Silesians. The audio guide first focuses on the ancient monastery church, the Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is a Gothic building, later remodelled in the Baroque style. Despite wartime damage, it has retained magnificent sculptures, wall paintings and pictures.Adjoining the church is the former monastery, built on an enormous, almost palatial scale. Its walls are reflected in the clear waters of a pond, on whose banks grow the old trees of an extensive park.
