Joseph von Eichendorff was born in 1788 and died in 1857. He went down in German literature as the most outstanding poet of the Romantic era alongside Goethe. Interestingly, his home village, Lubowitz, is the Polish village of Lubowice in Upper Silesia. This little-known place can be explored with an audio guide! The Eichendorffs' little castle that once stood in Lubowice is today a picturesque ruin, one of those so beloved by Romantic artists. Spending time there with the audio guide and strolling along the paths of the palace park, you can give in to the mood of nostalgia and melancholy so often present in Eichendorff's works. We learn about the facts of his life and present-day efforts to popularise the poet's work at the Eichendorff Upper Silesian Centre for Culture and Meetings.
