Szczecin is one of the largest cities in Poland in terms of area. So how can you take it all in at a glance without using a plane or a helicopter? The best way is to climb – by lift! – to the viewing point on the tower of the Archcathedral Basilica of St James. The audio guide will explain the panorama.
During the Second World War, the historic centre of Szczecin was almost completely destroyed by air raids and artillery fire. The bombs did not spare St James's Church either, destroying, among other things, its magnificent tower, nearly 120 metres high.
The tower with its soaring spire was reconstructed in 2008, making Szczecin Cathedral the second-tallest church in Poland, after Licheń.
The church's custodians did not forget about tourists and built a viewing platform on the tower, about 100 metres above sea level, which, combined with the audio guide, makes for quite an attraction!
