For centuries Olkusz was famous for mining silver and lead ores, and at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries it had a mint that struck, among other coins, trojak pieces bearing the image of King Sigismund III Vasa. The town’s former miners – the gwarki – are commemorated by the Srebrny Szlak Gwarków Olkuskich (Silver Trail of the Olkusz Miners): 18 bronze figures by Jan Siuta, placed at the most interesting spots in the Old Town. We created a mobile app for Android and iOS phones that guides visitors along the miners’ trail. The recordings tell the story of the town, its landmarks and its legends, and the route can be explored at your own pace. The audio guide is available in Polish, English and Russian, as well as in a version with audio description for blind and partially sighted visitors.
