The Międzyrzecki Rejon Umocniony (Międzyrzecz Fortified Region) is a system of German fortifications built between 1934 and 1944 near Międzyrzecz, in today’s Lubusz Voivodeship. Its underground tunnels, about 32–35 km long in total, are among the largest underground fortifications in the world, and part of them is now a reserve where more than 30,000 bats spend the winter. We created an audio tour in a mobile app that tells the story of how the fortifications were built and how they worked. The recordings present the structures and the equipment used by the soldiers stationed here, and introduce the current residents of the tunnels – protected species of bats. The audio guide is available in Polish, English and German.
