Ustka

The seaside town of Ustka has a wealth of attractions, and one of the newest is an audio guide that lets you explore the historic centre in the company of a 19th-century sea captain named Haase. The captain has vast knowledge of even the best-kept secrets of old Ustka, which he shares eagerly and with flair. The walk forms a loop that starts and ends at the tourist information office on Marynarki Polskiej Street. After putting on the headphones and switching on the audio guide, we meet Captain Haase and Jakub, who adds stories from Ustka’s more recent history. The two gentlemen lead us to the port and the lighthouse, stroll with us along the famous promenade, near which stands an age-old natural therapy spa, and even invite us into the captain’s house, which has fortunately survived to this day. We part only at the soaring church and – something the captain mentions reluctantly – in the shadow of the so-called Hitler oaks.
