Kórnik is a charming town 20 km from the capital of Greater Poland. Its appeal comes both from its location on three beautiful lakes and from its moated castle, construction of which began as early as the Middle Ages. The castle, in turn, is surrounded by Poland's oldest arboretum, which is also the richest in species. In terms of size, this research centre ranks fourth in Europe.
In the grounds of the former French-style garden, laid out in the first half of the 19th century, grow native trees several hundred years old, as well as exotic trees over a century old. One of the insect species living in Kórnik was described for the first time in the history of entomology. The site, together with the Dendrological Museum operating alongside it, is open to visitors all year round.
