Łowicz attracts tourists who long for both the atmosphere of a small town and an interesting history. It is one of the oldest Polish towns, a former wooden stronghold from which the Dukes of Mazovia set out to hunt – which, incidentally, is where the name of the town comes from, a town where you can admire over 100 historic monuments.
It is pleasant to spend time on the Old Market Square in Łowicz, with its interesting town hall and the former Primate's Collegiate Church. It is definitely worth visiting the museum, full of ethnographic treasures, located in a Baroque building that once belonged to the Missionary Fathers. The New Market Square is just as interesting. As the only one in Poland and one of three in Europe, it is triangular in shape, while its name is rather misleading, as it is lined with townhouses from the 18th and 19th centuries. Among the many relics of the past, the cathedral known as “the Wawel of Mazovia” is well worth a visit.
