Kościół pod wezwaniem św. Stanisława w Łańcucie Biskupa
Łańcut
Not everyone knows that, besides its magnificent castle, Łańcut also boasts a historic parish church. The Parish of St Stanislaus the Bishop in Łańcut dates back to the Middle Ages and, like the castle, is a reminder of the town's successive owners: the Pilecki, Stadnicki, Lubomirski and Potocki families. The first wooden church served not only religious purposes but was also a refuge during raids by Tatars, Ruthenians and Vlachs. The parish's subsequent, equally turbulent history can be read in the old walls that remember the successive churches built here. The Łańcut parish church owes its present-day eclectic architectural form to a reconstruction at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Thanks to centuries of history and perfectly preserved historic furnishings, a visit to this church can be a fascinating lesson about the history of the region and of Poland as a whole.
