Santoczno is located in western Poland, in the northern part of the Lubusz Voivodeship. The landscape there is dominated by vast forests, numerous lakes and streams. In such idyllic surroundings it is easy to overlook the village's remarkably interesting past. Fortunately, an audio guide can be rented on site, which will show you around the village, point out its historic sites and tell you fascinating stories. Santoczno developed from the 18th century onwards as a significant centre of iron smelting. At that time, the village belonged to the Kingdom of Prussia and was called Zanzhausen. The traditions of the metal industry survived right up until the Second World War. During the walk you can see, among other things, a historic church converted from… an ironworks warehouse, as well as a regional heritage room with mementoes obtained both from the former German inhabitants of the village and from the first Polish settlers.
