In the popular imagination, the capital of the Silesian Voivodeship is nothing but a city of coal and steel. But here comes a surprise! Katowice is in fact a modern metropolis that simply has keeping up with the latest trends in its blood. To see this for yourself, all you need to do is set out into the city with the audio guide along the Modernism Trail and marvel at the extraordinary buildings that were already avant-garde before the Second World War.With the audio guide we walk a good few kilometres. It is well worth taking the time, however, to see how the architects working in the first half of the 20th century understood modernity. Some followed in the footsteps of the brilliant Le Corbusier, others blazed their own trails. During the tour we discover works by, among others, Karol Schayer and Tadeusz Michejda. The buildings we see include modest villas and residential houses as well as the imposing edifices of the Silesian Voivodeship Office and Silesian Parliament and of the Non-Integrated Government Offices, as well as a church and a bank headquarters.
