The Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk makes a tremendous impression even from the outside, resembling a huge piece of shrapnel driven into the ground a few dozen metres from the Martwa Wisła river. Yet no one even suspects that the exhibition is located in an even more exciting place, a dozen or so storeys underground. That is where we wander with the audio guide, learning about the nightmare of the years 1939–1945.After passing through the gates, we find ourselves in a long corridor with smooth concrete walls. Immediately afterwards, the audio guide invites us to the first of many film screenings, after which the walk begins – from room to room, from one valuable exhibit to an even more valuable one.The audio guide is not intrusive; instead, it introduces us to those events, to that nightmare, probably the greatest in the history of humankind. It is up to visitors to decide whether they want to delve deeply into the military history of the war or face up to the theme of all-pervasive terror.
